X-Men Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Written By Phoebe Cheong, Singapore

The film is set in a dark, dystopian future where weaponized robots called Sentinels have ravaged the world in the hopes of exterminating the mutant threat from the planet. Rushing onto the big screen is the first fast-paced, mutant-versus-Sentinel fight scene. You can barely start breathing again when you are transported abruptly, along with Shadowcat (Ellen Page) and Bishop (Omar Sy), to the next scene.

Emerging from a futuristic plane is our favorite band of superheroes—Storm (Halle Berry), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Professor-X (Patrick Stewart) with his plan to save the mutants. They decided to send Wolverine back in time to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from murdering scientist and Sentinel-inventor Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage)—the event that convinced humans of the necessity to take action against the dangerous mutants.

Racing against time, which bids the Sentinels’ arrival, Shadowcat uses her powers and transports Wolverine’s consciousness back to the 70’s. After much convincing, mind-reading, and breaking into the Pentagon with super-speed, we reach critical point after critical point where many important choices have to be made—choices that will affect the future.

We, too, have to constantly make important choices. Everyday presents situations where we need to choose between doing good or evil, between pleasing God or our sinful human nature. And our choices have consequences. Galatians 6:8 tells us, “The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life” (NIV).

Let us make living for God our choice today!
