Description: When it comes to our relationship with God, we all know what’s the right thing to do: read your Bible, pray everyday, walk in constant obedience…and the list goes on. But when was the last time we stopped to really enjoy God’s presence, take stock of the gifts He has given us, and to revel in how much He delights in us?

Here are some ideas to help us grow in our delight of God.

There are times where we’d feel unloved and unlovely. We look in the mirror and negative self-talk pours out. In moments like these, look up to Heaven, and remember that we have a God who saved us and delights in us. He rejoices over us with singing (Zephaniah 3:17) and His affection for us is unchanging.

There’ll be times where we’d feel a little lost, a little left out, and a little unheard. But we’re not forgotten or left to flounder in the vast ocean of this world alone. We’ve been adopted into His family (Ephesians 1:5), which means a permanent relationship with a loving Father, and a constant Friend who’ll never refuse our company.

We see God’s fingerprints in creation. Firstly in you and me, a miracle made of thousands and thousands of cells. We also see His creativity in the uniqueness of snowflakes and the intricate system of leaf veins. He lovingly created all these for our enjoyment, and called them all “very good” (Genesis 1:31).

We may feel like God has forgotten us when we don’t see answers to our prayers, but He is a loving Father who graciously gives us all we need. Romans 8:32 reminds us that His answers to our prayers may look different from what we expect, but we can trust that the God who did not spare His own Son, Jesus, for us will wisely give us what we need for every situation we’re facing—whether it’s wisdom, strength, perseverance, or direction.

Sometimes it’s easy to find our joy and fulfillment in things or people. And while that new purchase or your best friend’s company are all gifts from God, there’s no greater gift than being in His presence. That’s where we’ll find joy, true satisfaction and refreshment in Him.

We often strive for approval—from God and the people around us—forgetting that we’ve already been accepted by Him the moment we choose to root our lives in Him. So we can come to Him with our guilt and sin, and feel Him gently and lovingly lift them off our shoulders.
