Supernatural experiences aside, spiritual warfare also extends to the subtle and mundane areas of our lives, such as negative thoughts of self-condemnation, or a sense of self-glorification. Recall that the slightest distortion of God’s truth, the small seed of doubt, was all it took for the serpent to deceive Eve.

Paul uses warfare as the metaphor to highlight the urgency of our situation and our need for vigilance, which is why we need to put on the whole armour. For the battle we have been enlisted to is not merely a battle of the mind nor the heart, but rather a call to offer our whole selves for the Lord’s kingdom.
