Description: Our minds are made up of wonderful and intricate spaces–each housing an entire world of its own. In one corner, we’ve mentally accumulated and stored away lies that have been spoken over us. And then in another, there may be the ideals we’ve internalised that drive us towards success and recognition. And next to that, we’ve kept hidden the wounds and secret grudges we hold against others. And below that, the memories we’ve mentally filed away for the times when we need a good dose of positivity.

With so many different thoughts and underlying motives occupying our minds, it’s no wonder our attention is always scattered and divided, leaving us with no room to think about God, or to reflect on what is true, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8).

Once in a while, we try to declutter the spaces in our mind to make room for Jesus–only to find ourselves overwhelmed when we start cluttering it again with our thoughts, distractions, and daily to-do lists.

Maybe the solution isn’t just to make room for Jesus, but to recognise that we need Him to completely transform, renew, and occupy our minds (Romans 12:2).

Here are 5 steps to help us to do so!

You’re now a child of God and a new creation—those lies that have been spoken over you no longer have any power to define you.

Are there regrets, disappointments, and failed dreams weighing heavily on your mind? It’s time to let them go.

Steep yourself in God’s Word and let His truths dismantle the walls in your mind, so that you’ll be able to discern the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God for your life.

We’re all prone to spiritual forgetfulness—so take the time to intentionally remember and record all the times God sat with you in the deepest pit and met you in such a real way.

As you pray God’s Word into your life, let Him take the deep truths you’ve learned about Him from your mind to your heart—that you may taste and see that the Lord is good.

Learning to make room for Jesus and to continually savour His goodness is a process that takes time. So even as you slowly grow those spiritual muscles, don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep fixing your eyes on Jesus, and He’ll help you grow, slowly but surely.
