Let’s Not Give Up on Malaysia

/
It may feel like there’s nothing much for us to celebrate this Malaysia Day (especially while COVID’s kept us stuck at home!), but the past year has shown us there’s still much we can thank God for. Though we’ve experienced many ups and downs as a nation, we’ve continued to see the Malaysian spirit on display as we’ve bounced back from challenge after challenge. This Malaysia Day, let’s look back on how we’ve grown stronger as a nation, and celebrate the different ways we’ve come together to help each other cope during this difficult time. And let’s commit our beloved tanah air into God’s hands, trusting Him to help us grow as a caring and united nation What’s one harapan you have for Malaysia this year? Share it with us in the comments below!

The experience of mental illness can be incredibly isolating–not only for the one who’s suffering, but for their loved ones too. Grief, helplessness, confusion and even anger are common feelings for carers. What’s worse is feeling cut off from loved ones by the very waves of despair that threaten to drown them.

When God Didn't Answer My Prayer for a Relationship

I sat on the couch as tears dripped down my face. I had willed myself not to cry, but I felt as if a small tiny knife had lodged in my heart, and each breath drawn only served to push the metaphorical knife further into my heart. I replayed the text message in my head: “It’s someone I have started seeing, but nothing official at the moment.”

My coworker turned to me yesterday and started, “Did you hear the news about . . .?” I cringed inside, not wanting to hear how he would finish the sentence. I was already anticipating negative news that would further disrupt this already difficult week.

Does God Really Care About Me?

“If it matters to you, it matters to God,” read my friend’s fridge magnet. I thought it was a lovely sentiment when I first read these words at my friend’s place several years ago.

Coming Clean On My Dirty Little Secret

I stood there with a razor in my hand. It was the first time I’d ever seriously contemplated ending my life. I had been in the shower for almost an hour, and I could hear the voices of my mother and sister pleading with me to get out.

ODB: Safe in His Arms

I sat next to my daughter’s bed in a recovery room after she had undergone surgery. When her eyes fluttered open, she realized she was uncomfortable and started to cry. I tried to reassure her by stroking her arm, but she only became more upset. With help from a nurse, I moved her from the bed and onto my lap. I brushed tears from her cheeks and reminded her that she would eventually feel be

ODB: Charity Island

Charity Island is the largest island in Saginaw Bay in the Michigan waters of Lake Huron. For many years the island has provided a lighthouse for navigational aid and a safe harbor for those sailing these waters. The island received its name because sailors believed it was there “through the charity of God.”Sometimes in life we have to navigate through seas of troubling circumstances.

ODB: The Storms of Life

In the book of Mark we read about a terrible storm. The disciples were with Jesus on a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. When a “furious squall came up,” the disciples—among them some seasoned fishermen—were afraid for their lives (4:37-38). Did God not care? Weren’t they handpicked by Jesus and closest to Him? Weren’t they obeying Jesus who told them to “
